Philip ‘Oscar’ Gould
The Membership Officer in a Masonic Lodge is responsible for supporting the growth, engagement, and retention of the lodge’s members. His role typically involves welcoming prospective candidates, guiding them through the application and interview process, and ensuring they receive the information and support they need as they begin their Masonic journey.
He also works to strengthen the experience of existing members—monitoring attendance, encouraging participation, identifying members who may need support, and helping to keep the lodge vibrant and well‑connected. In many lodges, the Membership Officer collaborates with the Secretary and Almoner to maintain accurate records and ensure ongoing pastoral care.
In essence, the Membership Officer is the bridge between the lodge and its members, fostering continuity, engagement, and a positive atmosphere for all.
Worshipful Brother Philip “Oscar” Gould serves as the Membership Officer of North Kent Lodge No. 2499, where he is widely appreciated for his energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to strengthening the Lodge through meaningful engagement with new and existing Brethren.
Oscar’s Masonic journey is characterised by his warm approachability, steady reliability, and genuine passion for fellowship. In his role as Membership Officer, he is instrumental in welcoming prospective candidates, guiding initiates through their early steps, and ensuring that all Brethren feel valued and connected within the Lodge. His ability to communicate clearly, build rapport, and support others has made him an essential part of the Lodge’s growth and continued vibrancy.
Beyond the Craft, Oscar brings with him a long-standing association with Scouting, where he has been actively involved with the 9th Erith Air Scout Group. His contributions to the Scouting movement reflect many of the same qualities he displays in Freemasonry: leadership, service to the community, encouragement of personal development, and a commitment to instilling positive values in young people. His Scouting background complements his Masonic work, providing him with a breadth of experience in mentoring, organisation, and fostering a sense of teamwork.
Within North Kent Lodge No. 2499, Brother Gould is respected not only for his dedication to his duties but also for his good humour, approachability, and steadfast support of his fellow Brethren. His ongoing contributions continue to enrich the Lodge, and he remains a valued member whose efforts help maintain the spirit and harmony that the Craft holds dear.
